I had an outbreak of ich or velvet in my display tank and lost several fish. I set up a QT to treat my remaining two fish (copperband and melanarus wrasse). Since the wrasse needs sand to sleep in, I added some from my display tank to a tupperware in the QT. I wasn't thinking about the fact that the sand will likely have the parasite and it would have been best to add new sand. Am I okay to leave the display tank sand in the QT since I will be running copper? In other words, will the copper kill any parasites in the sand anyway? Obviously I won't add the QT sand back to the display tank once the 76 days fallow is complete.

If youre running coppersafe or copper power, it may absorb it slightly but your test kit for copper will determine stability or loss of copper level

Very good point, but my main question is whether it's okay that I used infected display tank sand in my quarantine tank. In other words, do I need to go buy new sand or will the copper I plan to use kill any parasites in the sand anyway?

Its not ok, but the coppersafe will address any parasites present

Would it "soak" through the depth? Or should it be stirred? Honestly just curious. Sorry to jack the thread.

Good question. I'm going to replace with new sand just to be safe.

The copper will handle any parasites in the sand (and your DT will need to k lm ay fallow for 60 days to clear any parasites anyways).

However, if you can get new sand that is not calcium based, that would work better in regards that it won’t pull copper out of the water.
