All of this will occur with the lights off Then I would start turning off the lights after I was certain that the biological portion was stable and perimeters blah blah blah

I made an edit to describe the lights would be off during the initial cycle.

And theoretically the cycle should go fast with sand from the beach

Let's face it. There's not a company in this world that can deliver sand to me which is better than the sand I get from the beach

There are obstacles potentially. But if I know what to look out for I can do it.

As I said if I start this way I would run the tank for several weeks or months and then it would be safe to add animals

I would have the benefactor of bacteria from the ocean that is what we're all striving for isn't it

Years ago we used to get that from the rock we bought from the fish store. But nowadays you cannot buy live rock like that anymore

So if you have the ocean available you should use it and just wait several weeks or months until you add animals

That way you get the best of both worlds because you can eliminate the pests and accumulate all the benefit bacteria
