Hello,

I'm looking for something that will school or shoal for my ~2000 gallon mixed reef. Dimensions are 18 ft x 4 ft x 4 ft. Any suggestions help. Some ideas that came to mind were:

40-50 Green Chromis
10-12 Chalk Bass
5-7 Mono
18 feet is crazy! Do you have a build thread?

I’m right where @vetteguy53081 is. I always thought a big tank would look fantastic with a large number of look down fish cruising around.

Otherwise a few rock clusters with large anemones and 200 Clowns fighting for their spots.

Pilot fish get like 3 feet long.

Lookdowns require more room, especially turning room.

Flag tails are a great suggestion. There is a big display of them at Henry Doorly.

Are you just bragging? I think if you already have a 2,000 you already know what fish you want. Right?

We started with 30 Zebra Bar Gobies. Nice little school for now. Were going to add to it or start a school of blue green chromis.

Is this polo reef's alt account?!?

Anyway at that size you may be able to get away with a school of acanthurus tangs, pyramid butterflies would also look good

That would be 15K :grinning-face-with-sweat:
Lol when you are stocking a 2k+ gallon tank I assume the budget is 7 figures as minimum. Also it would honestly probably be one of the CHEAPER options. The quantity of fish you'd need to buy for a school in that size tank that you'd actually notice is massive

No, I know, stocking a tank that big is expensive, it's just crazy to think that is 15k.

I know you mentioned you were going to get a few Mono, but if I had the size tank you do, I would get closer to 10 or 15 of them. They are definitely super cool when they swim together in schools!

Mono argentis (silvery moony) school and you could probably pack a bunch in a big tank!

I saw a true school of 6 mono in a largish reef tank, only about 300 gal or so. They are very beautiful and interesting. I would strongly recommend this.
