Science fair project idea, Coral Propagation?

Was wondering what everyone thinks of the idea I have for my science fair project. Thinking of doing: How do corals propagate?
Basically I'd just be doing some research on how corals reproduce or grow. I don't know so it'd be a learning experience for me too. Also I'd just document and take pictures of some of my corals growing and me possibly fragging one to show how they re-build themselves I guess you could say. And since you have to ask questions for the research with people who are experts in the field I figured maybe some sponsors who do aquaculture would classify as experts (I know there are a lot of reefers who are experts but I don't know if the teacher or judges would consider that "experts").

If that doesn't sound like a good idea I'm open to suggestions. The project has to be answering a question not just simply demonstrating something.

sounds cool man you should prolly bring in a small tank just to show off your corals and help you win

Dude you will get the best grade!!

Take like a candy cane coral and maybe a small fish and a few other easy things. Put them in a 10g and set it up. Then frag off a head off the Candy Cane. You'll amaze them! LOL!

Well I don't know about the whole setting up a tank idea at the school, but we'll see. Figured it will be something easy and I am interested in and probably will look like I put a lot more work into it then I actually will.

You could turn your 10 gallon into a display. For showing it for a class period, you would only need like a powerhead to circulate. Then keep it for the teacher to keep a CLOSE eye on haha. Or maybe your mom could come pick you up early to take it home ;)

is this just a report type of project or an actual hands on type of project?
and i wouldnt label it as coral propogation, probably coral reproduction
in terms of propogation theres really only 1 way and thats to cut and grow
but when youre talking about reproduction you have a few different options and can use the big words like fragmentation and gametes and cloning via asexual reproduction/budding
then you would be able to talk about wave systems and how they help in fragmentation

Way to outline it for him :) I think the whole "how corals reproduce" would be cool. Maybe get a few closeups of zoanthids budding, and the different stages, like the bump, then premature head, then growing up to normal size. Then your beloved xenia the same kind of way. Youll get an A for sure if you let us do it for you :hammer:

Yeah I was thinking of showing how my zoanthids and xenia or anyone else who would be willing to share picture of their corals growing. And I'd have no problem with that at all. As long as I get the A then everybody's happy. Maybe I could even convince my dad to get me some easy to grow corals in the name of school/good grade haha.
