That question makes me wonder what is your expectation of the sea hare? They are usually pretty voracious hair algae eaters. If you want something to stir up/clean sand bed maybe some nas snails or a cucumber?

Eat the algae off the sand....
I tried a tiger tail cucumber, A rock fell on him, split him, he spilled his guts and killed a tang....
People here told me to remove the cucumber as he would continue to cause damage since he was hurt. He died in a day after removing him.
I want another but I had ordered him from online source... No Locals have them available.

Good call on removing him. Do you have hair algae on your sand bed?

I have some sort of brownish algae on my sand... gobie is really small so he doesnt seem to do much.
My Lawnmower blenny although i didnt expect him to eat the sand sometimes does here and there but not enough at all. He is mainly concerned with cleaning the rocks and any nori sheets i put in. Hes a good cleaner.

I had one for 2 years. My tank was pretty clean, so I fed him sea lettuce daily. He was hillarious. He'd roam around, occasionally just tumbling down the rocks, then get up and keep munching. Once I had to rescue him from an elegance coral.
imho- they should be left in the ocean... my experiance with multiple over the years tells me they are stupid! if they dont get sucked into a pump they will crawl under a rock and get stuck either way when they die it causes way to many problems for me to put one in my reef again...

LOL, get stuck under a rock? you mean it cant figure how to hit reverse and back out? or turn its squishy body and get out?
Also, its either him or another tiger tail... I had one already and it killed a tang when it let out its guts...
What is the better of the 2?

I've never had luck with one living more than a couple months. They do a great job of clearing algae, but then starve if not fed. My lfs turned me onto an abalone that does the same job, and it's been going for about two years without issue (other than knocking over corals sometimes!)

I've had this one sea hare who always sticks around for some silly reason. I started with several something like five years ago.. and this one I just always find at the oddest moments. my last encounter? He went up top a rock, stood up and.. started spewing "Love stuff" into the water column. He did this all night. He/she then got bored, got down, and disappeared again. :lol:

My elegance stung to death my sea hare and was trying to eat it! Elegance had head of hair in his mouth when I moved the hare.
