Sealant for PVC pipe threads?

the blue monster ptfe thread sealant is just teflon in liquid form. it will not glue it or bond it together. you can still loosen it up, move it, twist it.

Oh wow, I had no idea. Can I continue to use the fittings if I replace the tape with sealant, or do they all need to be replaced?

Silicone seems like it would be difficult to take apart.
I've never had a problem with teflon tape, but the stress issue makes sense so I switched to sealant. Currently using this stuff from Lowe's:
