Sealing DIY Stand

Will this stuff work for 2x4's? and can i paint over it or would i have to leave as is

It will work for short to medium length exposure to water. Standing water long term may penetrate it. If you scuff the surface, paint should stick to it OK.

For anything that will see exposure to water, even occasional, I use Spar Urethane. And I'm sure it would take paint with a little sanding.
