Seaweed from beach

I’m at the beach right now and there is a lot of seaweed on the sand.

Would it be safe to feed my blue tang that’s in QT with copper this seaweed?

I wouldn’t do it personally. The shores of the beach is pretty polluted. The seaweed manufacturing process cleans them and dries it. I don’t know what kind of things are on the seaweed.

Maybe @Paul B can chime in? He takes stuff from the ocean all the time.

I would not do it myself. I'd hate to see you lose that tang.

I'd rinse a little bit well and see if your tank likes it before adding a bunch of it. It may be a type that tolerates rain so freshwater may not bother it much but Expect it to break down fast in copper.

The beaches are the oceans skimmer .
I would not use it .
besides sitting on the beach , can you guarantee nothing has touched it ? Contaminated it ?

I just remembered that I watched a video of the nori manufacturing process. They take kelp from the ocean and use it. It’s fresh and not polluted.

Looks like sargassum. It can get stinky. Aside from that, you could wash it, preserve it, use small pieces. Disclaimer - have not done myself, just thinking aloud
