Seeding New Tank/Refugium

I added some Cheato to my sump refugium a while ago and have recently had a massive bloom of pods so thick the water got cloudy with them after shutting off the return pump and turning it back on. My mandarin and goby recently died in a velvet outbreak so I think that's why the pod outbreak. Fish are in quarantine while the tank is fallow and the pods have taken over. I think some of them are being eaten by the coral and anemones Never added any pods just a small ball of Cheato from the LFS.
