I'm getting my first reef set up for Christmas this year. Looking forward to this new adventure. I'm sure once I get started I'll have plenty of questions. The tank is scheduled to go up the weekend of December 17-18.

Hi ... here is a good place to start.

https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/the-supreme-guide-to-setting-up-a-saltwater-reef-aquarium.138750/ but feel free to ask questions at any time ;):)

Wow. What a great group - all these new friends!

I'll be sure to post photos once I get started. I've kept freshwater for years and currently have a 120 gallon community tank with live plants.

My current wish list for the reef: Soft corals and some LPS, watchman goby and pistol shrimp, percula clownfish and long tentacled leather coral (or something they will host in, I've heard anemones aren't for beginners or new tanks), peppermint shrimp, tank cleaners like brittlestars and a diversity of snails, feather dusters, Banggai cardinal, firefish, maybe royal gramma, maybe an urchin (do they come out or are they hiders?), maybe a pom pom crab or decorator crab. I have a list that's a little longer than what can fit into my tank to allow for variable availability.

Still several weeks till I can start the set up and I'm already very excited.

Welcome to R2R and the salty side. I would like to suggest starting a build thread. It's a great place to share your journey, ask questions and look back at your progress. Good luck with the build.

Great. I will do this once I get all the equipment. I'm afraid it's not going to be as spectacular as some of the other build threads I've looked at - I'm only doing a 54 gallon RedSea and I'm not plumbing through the floor or wall to a big sump!

Welcome to R2R! You're at the right place to get all of your new tank questions answered. Start up a build thread;)
