Setting up my wave maker correctly

I have a 15 gallon peninsula with a Nero 3. From what I looked up the recommended setting for GPH on the wave maker for a 15 gallon tank is 300-600 gph. When my Nero 3 shows that rate I've noticed a buildup of detritus on the sand bed. When I set it to around 1200 GPH more flow pushes the detritus up and into the return pump to be filtered out. But my concern is that the wave maker might be too much and stress out the fish? Any recommendations as far as settings or maybe it's my return pump that needs to be upgraded?

flow doesn't stress out fish, but 1500 gph in a 15 gallon is borderline insanity. if you have a lot of rockwork, that could be disrupting the flow and allowing detritus to settle. sandbeds also just get dirty over time regardless, especially in newer tanks where algae blooms tend to happen. pics might help.

My 15 gallon has 2 sicce nano's at 535 gph each, my fish are fine. Fish are fine in flow.
