Now how many times have I said, I’m not buying any more established coral colonies because they just do not survive long term. On average 2-3 months if your lucky
Im adamant they come from someone’s tank into the LFS, the water is changed and then they slowly die off. I have absolutely no problem keeping SPS or anything else in my new tank from Frags.
So here’s a picture of the brain coral that was added around 9th February 2020 and you can see what’s happening to it today 20th April and this was £120 worth.
Ive moved it a few times to alter flow, but to no avail and all water parameters are spot on so.....
Shaun, DO NOT EVER BUY ESTABLISHED COLONIES AGAIN!!
I really enjoyed looking through your build, the tank is looking great!
As far as the brain goes I think it is still salvageable. I would suggest spot feeding it nightly (turning off power heads to allow you to coat feeder tentacles in a mix of small particulate foods) and take pictures 1x/week (or bi-weekly) to document tissue growth/recession. Most anthozoans utilize heterotrophic feeding to meet metabolic energy needs more heavily than I think many aquarists give credit to or maybe realize. Most people tend to think of anthozoans as gaining the majority of their metabolic energy via autotrophy (just my observation over the years). I hope this colony survives!
