When I go on vacation, should I turn my lights to 50%? I will be gone for one week. My one tank is a frag tank and has about 40 so a Frags in the diatoms are already really bad. I just feel like since they’re all Zoe’s turning it to 50%, won’t be as bad when I come home for the diatoms.

Try it for a week before you leave and see how it goes. Personally I am not in favor of changing the dynamics of a system significantly while on vacation. Can someone else like the lfs hold the frags for you, or an aquarium service.

I have personally left my lights completely off for a few days for dinos. I would just leave them off altogether, like a stormy/cloudy week over the reef. I would rather do that then alter the light settings, especially when you're not home.

No it’s just me. I have an auto top off and all that just didn’t know if turning the light down would help with the diatoms since I won’t be there to clean them

I believe so. As mentioned, sometimes a reef is clouded out for a week or so in nature due to stormy weather. I've absolutely done this for like 3 days with Zoas and no problems that I can think of.

I personally leave my tank as is when I go out of town. I have one of our family members come by and check on our tank every few days to feed the fish and make sure nothing is dead.
