i am wondering if I should move my emperor angel out of my 150 reef (stacked rock scape)and into my 220 fowlers (negative aquascape). he seems to be having a hard time just fitting in places in the 150 now (my personal opion) and has been in the 150 his whole life. he is about 1.5x the size of the largest mag float I have or 8"L X 6"H +/- . but I'm worried about the change in water conditions affecting him along with "will he handle it well. do you think he will handle the move? how should i handle this? fowler tank mates would be

1 bi-color angel
1coral beauty angel
1 klien butterfly
1 fox face
3 yellow tail damsels
2 diamond gobies
1 engineer goby
1 starry blenny
2 osc clowns and a nem
1 niger trigger

he would definitely be the big boy on campus cause none of these fish are over 3"

You should move him if it means more room. But also depends who is in the 220. You would have some acclimation to do.
Mine loves open spaces with caves. She spends most of her time in the open. Grazes on rocks when she wants and hides in the caves when company is over.
Perhaps yours is different.

If I were you, with 2 tanks going....
Compare parameters, specific gravity and temp. How similar are they?

How close in proximity are the tanks?
I’d start pulling water from emp tank and add to Fowler.

i revised the post to include tank mates.
Capture 4.JPG

i will have to do some manual testing on the alk,ca, mag, I am confident that the sal is pretty close cause i run automatic water changing set up and i keep that water at .025-.026. the tanks are on oppsite ends of the same room in my house say 30 feet apart. why would i change the 220 water with the 150 water?

Is that parameters for both tanks? The biggest issue would be matching salinity and ph. Nothing else would be a big issue. Of course angels don't like high nitrates and phosphates. i would worry more about the emp picking on the little fish in the 220 from that list. Usually not an issue if they are happy.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of tank mates does the emperor have now? I have a smaller (pre-teen) emperor - but he gets along with the other dwarf angels, tang and smaller fish like clownfish and dottybacks. Mine absolutely loves his caves, so I’m thinking at least one (or rock overhang) would probably be welcomed.

Good luck with acclimating him to his new home if you go that route.

Your 150 is nothing like mine. If I had that much room in my 150 we would not be having this convo. I'll go snap a shot.

I see what you mean, in terms of the difference between your 150 and mine, due to the difference in rock work. I think in your situation he would be happier in the larger tank, and if anything I might just pull the left and right structures off he side glass for a little more room to get to turn around/swim behind the back glass more easily. Beautiful fish you have, by the way. :)

(Of course if you don’t mind the extra work you could instead just thin out your rock work a whole lot in the 150... add it back into your 220... because I’m sure your Emperor likes the swim height in the 150 as well.)

update----- he's still alive and well so far. I have two clowns that need a home. may add them in the 150 reef to replace him.

1 wk Update
He's alive an well. However. I have noticed a few odd behaviors. Since the move. Fyi He does eat.

1. His colors have faded since the move.

2. he flashes againest the sand an rocks From time to time.. The 220 tankmates were all well qted for weeks before being put in my fowler tank, so I'm pretty confident there should be no disease in the tank. I'm pro QT for sure. Learned that lesson earlllly on. Lol

3 according to my apex the WP in the 220 are a touch higher. Not a fish killer difference (imo). Tmp 79 an 81, ph 7.6, 7.8 an sal .024 an .026 the 220 is the higher number.

4. When the lights go out, he comes out of hiding an acts normal.which is a total opposite behavior from when he was in the 150.

An opinions on why his over all behavior has changed? An should I treat the entire tank with say A metro with gc punch. It's a fowler after all so no need to catch him to treat with those two meds. I have read that it seems to be related to stress from being in a new place an truth to this?
