I have a Red Sea Max E -170. Unlike some of the other Red Sea Aquariums, the entire sump is in the back of the tank. The skimmer is above the tank water line as well. I love my tank and if the power goes out or a pump fails I don't have the risk of an overflow.
A tank with the sump and equipment under the cabinet I can absolutely see the need for a leak detector that can shut off a circulating pump. I was just wondering if with my setup it crosses the point of diminishing returns. I would really only need it to perhaps sound an alarm.

Max E series owners, do you also install a leak detector ?
