I have a wild male, eats tdo chroma boost. Put it on an auto feeder a few times a day and he figured it out. Mine seems to be a very smart fish. Took him a bit to get used to aquarium life. I think he's my happiest fish and most well acclimated . I did order pods off eBay every other week and cultured some of my own pods and fed them the TDO , but just till he got settled. I hatch him brine shrimp to chase pretty frequently, but that's just to keep him from getting bored, if I don't give him something to do he just hangs under the auto feeder

I have a 125g with a 5 gallon refugium area. My wild caught mandarin does fine under these conditions I wouldn't go any lower tho. I'd suggest a captive bred one. I also keep leopard wrasse and a twin spot gobie which rely on pods as well.

Most likely he will be fine in your tank. What other fish in it?
