I was thinking that I would need to cut an opening on the opposite side of the stand to where the fan is to get cross ventilation. It seems like having an opening right above the fan would just pull the air from above itself and not grab the rest of the air in the stand.

It sounds like it is working for you though. Any issues with moisture?
You are correct.
I have some openings in the front of the stand however the guy who built my stand left a big opening for a center rear overflow.
I do notice the fan helps, especially here in NY where we keep windows closed during cold months and co2 is high in the house. I got a kalk stirrer to fight that.
Moisture also is reduced with it so it is a big helper in ny opinion. I dont get any condensation compared to other systems I've had.

Far from done but this is how mine is starting to turn out! I have 1 Apex Controller panel and 1 panel for all of my powerheads and power bricks which are installed on the back!
I am a little OCD when it comes to wire management, lol so I still have a lot of work to do. Please feel free to follow along on my new build.

Would you show/explain how you have installed the 1" dowels? is the panel removable?

Sure. I attached dowels as a "stop"/support for panel top and bottom. I used velcro on the dowels so panel is completely removable. Pic is top dowel. Panel sits about 8" in with a gap of 7" behind it for cables to EB8s and ventilation. (Sorry pics not the best - haven't rec'd interior light for cabinet yet)

@Reefcowboy - care to share a picture of the back of your tank and how you have your returns and drains plumbed?
I set an 1.5" flow monitor in my emergency drain that will alert me in the event the primary and secondary are obstructed.

I also set a meter on one of the returns so I can check flow in the event I ever added a sump, UV or other system to the tank.

Nice shot @Reefcowboy - but what's with the plastic bag over the 1.5'' spears gate valve if you don't mind me asking you? My plumbing is still on hold for another week but I will be running a 20'' Synergy External Overflow box as well on my SCA 150 with 3 1.5INCH DRAINS AND 1'' returns with a Wye Check valve on each return.

This is just an illustration since this is a TRITON sump! I just wanted to show you how I will be hard plumbing my SCA Rimless 150 w/ my 20'' Synergy Overflow box including my CL-44 Synergy sump.
What you see in the picture is just a 34'' Synergy sump but I just wanted to show you an example of what the back of my tank will look like except I will have 2 - 1'' Wye Check valves for each return.

My 1.5'' Overflow plumbing bk shot.jpg

This is what mine will look like under the cabinet. 1.5 INCH Spears gate valve and a 1.5inch Cepex ball valve..

Lol
That plastic was tied to the cord of my stand fan... so I wouldn't drag it as I was moving the tank around during set up...
Nice set up you have going on

@FishDoc , very nice and clean and smooth looking there is no double about it mate! Instead, since I don't really care for mental stands even know its starting to become a new trend but then again if I HAD your sump, I would want to show it off as well :) O yeah, what kind of sump do you have? is that a Royal Exlcuv sump by chance, either way, whoever made it did a really good job with there craftsmanship. Great work can't wait to see this monster when it's up and running! I am in the process of starting my new SCA RIMLESS 150 build thread that I have started. Have you started a build thread on your system yet, if not you should? Matter of Fact, my new sump just came in yesterday Synergy Reef Systems! I got a CL-44 w/ a 10-gallon ato reservoir that will be connected to my Saltwater mixing station and my 6 stage RODI with a Dual Membrane upgrade.
