Look up your brand of skimmer they should have a recommended water level for your sump, where the water is on the body/neck. Unless yours is external? Then maybe turn up/down the air...

I don’t know a lot about that brand of skimmer but they basically all have some kind of adjustment pipe to lower the water level in skimmer. You should open it more so that the water level in the skimmer is lower so the foam has to travel farther up before entering the collection cup.
Here is my skimmate for reference.

Is that a curve 7 or 9? First try turning the pipe to open the outlet valve. If its already wide open, is it an AC pump or DC pump? If it's DC, turn down the pump power. If AC, try raising the skimmer so it has a lower water level.

You can raise the skimmer with a DC pump too, but it's easier just to turn the power level down.

I would go lower. I think their recommendation is too high. I had an old NAC6A back in the day and now a curve 5. I ran and curently run both lower than recommended. Probably around 8in.

Quick test is to just raise it by hand and see how it runs. If you want a cheap quick stand - take a 2.5 gallon bucket from the hardware store and cut the height to your desired level. Drill some holes to prevent it from floating and to prevent stagnant water within. Flip the bucket upside down and place the skimmer on top.

Running all options here , tried on setting 4 and 0 so far and same results
Gonna clean it and go max open for 24 hours

As you see the skim is really low in the neck so should be dryer

Just trying the level first then I’ll mess with the air but in the 8 years this has been running the air has always been fully open and I used to get black skim

So I can set the level anywhere I want in the body or neck but the skims the same colour
This issue may not actually be an issue but since the bacterial blooms this is how it’s been since then
