I’ve been reefing for three years now. I’ve experimented with different types of corals since I got started. I’ve had acros, torches, leathers, zoas, and many more. Even though I get into one type of coral for a while, my heart is with one of the first corals I purchased. It was a bubble coral I fell in love with at my LFS. It was about 4” across and was in the shape of a heart. I bought it immediately and placed it delicately in my bio cube 32. Three years later and after a tank upgrade to a Red Sea 350, this guy is a monster. I’ve had to adjust the rock work several times to keep his tentacles from frying his neighbors. Watching him every evening brings such great joy. He’s about 10” across now and he’s just an incredible mood lifer. I get stoned in the evenings and appreciate the bubbles, the way the tentacles expand and sway in the current. I recently added a new pair of clownfish to my tank. Unexpectedly they tried to host the monster bubble coral. From what I read this is very risky as the bubble could easily gobble a small clown. After two weeks of courting the bubble, only one clown made it out alive. Right now he’s the champion of the bubble wars. Weaves in and out of the bubbles like a pro. I’m a proud daddy. Sorry if this sounds like a love letter to bubbles. Like I said, I’m stoned. Enjoy the pictures!
