Hi all, my tanks about 5 months old and fully cycled. One of my clownfish got sick overnight with something going on with his skin. I treated both with a freshwater dip for 5 mins and then 37% formalin bath with Malachite green (0.32mg/mL) for 45 mins. He's in a bucket now for quarantine. He hasnt taken any food for the past 2 days, and I've got no other fish in the tank, just some corals. I'm located in Australia, so it may be hard to get some chemicals (cant get Ruby Reef Rally easily ~ 3 weeks shipping, same with metroplex). Also, only wet additions were some mushroom corals about a week ago, no other fish. The tank is all soft corals and a clean up crew of inverts. The other clown is doing great with no signs or symptoms, but I've treated them both if its Brook, but wanting a second opinion, especially since its my first marine tank and best ways to treat. Thanks in advance!

First two photos are before dip:

Welcome to Reef2Reef

It's really tough to say from the pictures. My first thought is Brooklynella, but the ripped fins point to aggression, and then Brooklynella tends to affect all clownfish in a tank.

Can you post a clear video of both fish?

Hi Jay,
Unfortunately he's just passed away in last 30 minutes or so. I've moved the female to a new quarentene tank. It looked like the female was nipping him a little as he wasnt doing too well, and his fins before this looked fine. I've attached a video from the female, who to my untrained eye looks good, but I wil continue with the formalin baths every 3 days.

This was his fins a day before any symptoms showed (He's the small one on the right hand side):

Im seeing aggression signs from bullying from a tankmate as well as what looks like ich and would place any remaining fish in quarantine and treating them with coppersafe or Copper Power at therapeutic level 2.25 for a FULL 30 days (do not interrupt this 30 day period) monitored with a Hanna Brand copper test kit- No API brand. Also monitor Ammonia levels while in quarantine with a reliable test kit and add aeration during treatment using an air stone.
The display tank will have to be kept fishless (FALLOW) for 6-8 weeks to assure the existing parasites go through their life cycle without a host fish and die off. Inverts and coral can remain in the display (not treatment) tank during fallow period.
A quarantine tank can be as simple as a tank from a second hand store, a Rubbermaid type tub or a starter kit from Walmart which most of the needed essentials.

Hello thanks for your reply! I agree that the fins look like they have been nipped, but I'm sure that has only happened within the last 48 hours in my quarantine tank. Unfortunately he's just passed away in last 30 minutes or so. I've moved the female to a new quarentine tank. I've attached a video from the female (previous post), who to my untrained eye looks good, but I wil continue with the formalin baths every 3 days. The display tank is fine to fallow for that period. I don't have copper on hand, will the formalin baths and transerring to a new container every 3 days also work. I can get some copper medication, but It'll take a few days for that along with the copper test kits.

Formalin baths do help, just be careful with concentrations/levels. The larger often female are aggressive and will corner and chase the smaller and hog all the food, reason male is often smaller and even bite at them.
