Sick Fish?

Came home and this lemon peel tang was lying on the bottom. Breathing heavy.

Have not added any fish in at least 2 months. This one has been in for at least 6 months never any issue.

No white spots.

Salt 1.025 Temp 77.7 zero ammonia

I did see my yellow tang nipping at him while lying on bottom.

Any thoughts or more info needed?

Image is dark but v4 assure no change in water quality such as:
Elevated ammonia or nitrate
Elevated temperature
Dirty filters
Uneaten food on bottom

Do a water change and add aeration and when you get a chance- post a couple of pics under white light intensity

I expanded pics and appears to be a skin irritation from previous ich or water quality
You can qus ranting and treat with coppersafe at treatment level 2.0-2.25

The question in my mind is one of those, "what came first, the chicken or the egg?" I see a lot of fin and body damage on this tang. Are you certain that the other tang didn't do that to it, and THEN it was picking more on the this tang after it went down?

The white spots could be ich, could be sand grains, but even if they are ich, they are not numerous enough to cause the fish any real distress.

Is this fish breathing rapidly?

My guess is he got in a fight and lost.

He was breathing hard yesterday but I put him in isolation and he seems alright this morning.

I only had a fish trap to put him in and it is not very big. I plan on reintroducing him when I get home today unless you think that is unwise.

If there was fighting, if you reintroduce the tang after just half a day, it will likely just happen again. I agree that you shouldn't hold the tang in a small acclimation basket though. Is there any chance you could put a tank divider in there?

The Yellow Tang (YT) and Lemon Peel Tang (LPT) are too similar in shape and color to get along very well together. They are competitors for the same foods.

You could try over-feeding, but a tank divider would be best, as suggested by Jay. Be sure to provide the best foods you can. Check out the Fish Health Through Proper Nutrition post.

Generally I agree with you - but if introduced at the same time two yellow tangs, for example, can do ok.
