Puffer fish was perfectly normal yesterday it had a appetite like normal. I came home today to find him laying on the bottom with very labored breathing. He's normally in with tangs and a lionfish which are not showing any signs of anything. I have moved him into a QT in case something is picking on him. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It’s breathing deeply, but not too fast, I don’t think it is velvet. That’s the most common issue that can take a fish out overnight like that.

How long have you had the fish?

Jay,
Thank you for responding he didn't last but about 10 minutes after I posted this. Poor guy, I had him for 2 years so I was pretty attached to him at this point. It's just weird I've never had a fish die without knowing why. He had nothing visible on him (flukes, velvet, ich) I checked him out pretty close.

Sorry to hear...not sure what it could have been.
