Hello everyone,

Today I increased the flow rate from the DT to the sump, and unfortunately it increased the noise aswell, from low to very loud.
My plumbing is simple and honestly not the best, it could be better. I cannot add a second overflow as it would be way too risky so I must live with what I have here.
Most of the noise comes from air entering the pipes how could I prevent it?

Could try a screen slip fitting ?

stopping the surface sucking noise ? can also try 90 street elbow and screen combo at slight downward angle .
if noise is in sump ,extend pipe.

Seems good. What about attaching a gate valve to the end of the pipe ? The system doesn't have enough water to overfill my DT so that wouldn't be a issue

You can put a valve at the end and tweak it until you have full siphon which will be quieter, but also make sure snails cant get in and clog the pipe

Is there an overflow box or is this just a pipe out the back and down to the sump?

Thinking a gate may defeat the purpose of increasing the return flow ?

It's only a single pipe downward from there, I know it's tacky but that's what I have

It's a single drain that's still sucking air so it can handle more than the return pump can give it, the gate valve would go on the drain outlet rather than the return line. But it's risky if you dont have a good quality pump that can keep a steady flow rate

If you have room to install and overflow box through the existing hole, you can do a Durso style pipe which is usually the best single drain option

Edit: Actually I guess I'm not sure a durso would work with a back wall exit, but an overflow box in general will be better than just a pipe... there are boxes that take a single hole and provide two drains so you can have a full siphon and emergency line which is much easier to work with

So something like this ?

Yup, as long as you verify your existing hole is the right size this will make life easier! You put the gate valve on the bottom of the short side and tweak it so the water level stays between the two pipes. The taller one stays fully open as an emergency drain

A quick update:
Current flow rate is 2380 l/h, the system in total is 300l which makes the turnover rate 7,7x is that enough?
With the current flow rate it's not that loud +I added a mesh -the 90° elbow would make it worse without harder materials- I'm going to get that aquamedic strainer for better quality

Where the 90 is, Replace it with a “T” and a Cap, drill increasingly larger holes in the cap, till the gurgling stops in your sump.
Most of the sound comes from the black bulkhead (where you can see the white mesh). The sound of the foam popping in the sump doesn't bother me, that's not as noisy

Sorry I should have said Wye, not “T” Drilled Cap is at top, and is not glued for removal to clean. Wye is Glued. 1” Wye ordered from PVC Online Dot Com.
