I have a hob skimmer that draws air in to create the foaming action, but it's real noisy. After working night shift, I like to silence it, but it quits foaming. Don't laugh though it's the larger skilter. Will adding an airstone still continue the foaming effect?

I used an old prescription pill bottle. Put two holes in the cap. One hole is for the air intake line from the skimmer. In the second hole put a small piece of tubing. It made mine go virtually silent. I hope my very quick chicken scratch helps out.

Can also add a piece of reticulated sponge inside the pill bottle to further silence it. My tunze came with a silencer similar to the pill bottle design shown and it still had some noise. Actually seemed to echo inside the silencer. Added the sponge and now nothing

I use the pill bottle, but have cotton balls in mine to lower silence the air intake.
