So I cleaned by skimmer today, just the collection cup, I normally clean it in tap water, then rinse with RO, put it back in and after about an hour or two it’s back to normal.

Today I cleaned it with the water I drained from the tank as I was doing a water change and the thing has been going nuts.

I’ve closed the water level valve all the way. Nothing! Any ideas ?

Closing the valve should make it overflow while opening it should keep it from skimming to much.

I just dont understand how i can clean it it for 4 months then today it goes crazy. The only thing i did different was the way I explained above, plus i did add some Caribsea Life rock to big bits and several corals. Would that make a difference?

I don’t know about anyone else. When I run certain programs on mp40 it makes the skimmer go nuts as it’s suppose too I guess

It just dawned on me what happened! So I cleaned the filter socks in left over salt water from the water change. Not non salted RO. And then of course left them To dry, the salt crystallized! And whamo!Lesson

Another lesson learnt!
