Update on Skimmer after 6 months of constant adjustment.

OK, so I had this skimmer for 6 months now and It is non stop tweaking just because the water will fluctuate 1/2" in height every so often. It over flows after every power off ,so you can't shut it down to feed. I do water changes with it off and have to retune it after, even after I bring water to same level. So I don't recommend You buy one of these unless you want a lot of work! I also own a coral life 150G cone skimmer which is a little better but not much. You can't do feed shutdowns or blackout/brown outs it will over flow.

I just bought a Super Reef Octopus SRO-5000Ext off of ebay for $341.00 - $125.00 for shipping damage refund for a total of $216.00 that I will be quickly repairing. I plan to adapt a new RO-DC pump to it, to hybrid it in efficiency of consumption. The pump uses 45Watts for the recirculation pump and use the return pump to feed it.

Here my
"not so popular" Coralife Cone Skimmer
Its rated for 300 gallons under heavy stocking of the tank
The pump is a needle wheel installed by coralife, AC 110v 60hz aprox flow is 650 -700gph (for now) plan to mod to a new Diablo dc pump soon
The Base 14 1/2 X 9 3/4 X 26" high
It has a diffuser plate that works very good
I did lots of mods to it to get it to work reliably, I'm happy with it.

Ok Gang. What we want to do is get as many Skimmers as we possibly can compiled together, so that we can get a Database put together for all who are looking for Skimmer information. This is where I need all Members input here. What we are looking for is the following. After we get it all together here, we will trim up whats needed and put that information, with your names attached into the Databse.
We need, in this order:
Manufacturer name of Skimmer
A Picture of the Skimmer
Dimensions
Foot Print Dimensions
Manufacturer name of Pump and its GPH and watts
L/H Air Intake
Impeller type (Mesh, Needle etc.)
If it has a Recirc Pump, what type.
Tank Size Rating

Thanks to all in advance for your help on this

Reef Octopus BH-2000 HOB
BH-10002000-21.jpg
hobskimmer.jpg

Name: Reef Octopus BH-2000
Dimensions: 8" x 3.25" x 17"
Wall clearance needed: 4"
Pump: OTP pump at 500 GPH with venturi design and pinwheel impeller
Rating: 125 gallons

A classic HOB skimmer with great build quality. Externally mounted pump is easy to remove and reduces heat. The return pipe can even be angled to fit a variety of tight spaces. Has a surface skimmer, return sponge (to reduce microbubbles) and air silencer included (although I do not use the surface skimmer or return sponge to space constraints on my AIO). Great option for sumpless tanks and I would even consider using it in a sump to save space. Only design oversight is the lack of an overflow line for the cup. All adjustments are made by raising and lowering the cup height as there is no adjustable air intake. Simple to use and effective. Recommended.

ATB Nano One

have one and it's a great performer. Only draw back is that the cup does not hold a lot of skim and the cup is not drilled for running a skim locker. you would need to drill it yourself which is not hard and inexpensive. Drilling the cup may void warranty on the body but the pump would still be covered by ATB USA. skims like a beast. (see last pic)

Introducing the Updated line of ATB skimmers from the creators of the world’s first Full Cone Conical Skimmer. Made in Austria with only the finest material and well know craftsmanship. The ATB Nano One is now available in the USA. A smaller skimmer rated for up to 150 gallons.
Our Price: $499.00
399.00
Savings: $100.00

ATB Protein Skimmers have achieved the perfect balance of air and water to deliver constant, stable and frothy foam while eliminating turbulence. Maximum air to water contact time is achieved in a relatively small chamber that would simply not be possible with a traditional design. Couple this with the consistent and tiny micro bubbles created by our Airstar pumps and you have a recipe for uncompromising performance catered specifically to the professional aquarist.

Our skimmers are hand crafted in Austria using solid, durable and long lasting materials like PVC, Acrylic, and Titanium. Cuts are made with the help of our precision CNC machines. Our Airstar motor blocks are sourced from Italy and joined with our proprietary volutes and needle wheel impellers. This combination has led to one of the most energy efficient, long lasting, high performance and highly sought after skimmer pumps on the market.

Beware of inferior replicas of the original and patented ATB design.

  • Removable base plate for easy cleaning
  • Double bubble plate
  • Highly polished edges
All white PVC
  • Titanium hardware throughout
  • 1 year manufacturer warranty
  • Lifetime support

Ok I have a freshwater tank as well as my saltwater and I am thinking of putting a protein skimmer for a while now. what would be the best way of going about doing one without a sump? I would love to stay away from the hang on back type but not sure how I can do that. all help is welcome, thank you.

Hi Bedrock

i think you posted this in the Skimmer Q&A thread already. This thread is the data base thread for various types of skimmers so you probably wont get much of a reply but I'll try. HOB is the best option! You will have nightmares trying to run an external and plumb it (feed pump flows/check valves/potential for flooding etc..)
why no sump? you can get a small compact somatic sump or eshopps for cheap that can fit under most all tanks.
