If the price difference doesnt matter I vote SWC 300. Get a hold of Luke here. He will be able to take care of you.

Yes he did, thanks for the help. It shipped out yesterday

I have a SWC 160come with exteneded cup. i am looking for a quieter and better pump overall. What would you suggest that would be easy to install without much modding?

well when buying a skimmer with a pump inside it will be very hard to ever change the pump. The bubble plate has to attach to it. the inlets have to line up and the mounts have to work. Better off getting a skimmer that meets your needs without modding.

On that note, actually...

I have a Warner Marine H2 skimmer. It uses a Sedra 5000. Needless to say, the impeller is starting to swell (shocker :squigglemouth: ). But the biggest problem is that the volute cover is broken, so the edges that secure it to the pump are no longer there. Since the venturi is actually glued to the volute cover as one piece, this will be a somewhat involved replacement even if I just get another sedra. Seeing as I loath sedras :D I was wondering if I could replace it with another pump? The only thing that really has to "line up" is the outlet from the pump to the skimmer body. I have wiggle room with the pump intake. Any thoughts? Or should this be in its own DIY thread?

Or is it all just not worth the trouble, and I should find myself a new , smaller HOB skimmer for my little clown cube? :D Thanks.

Not sure if you could get it too fit but a psk 600 would work well.

I just picked up a skimz sk181. Its working great but the pump is a bit noisy. I took it apart, checked it, and put it back together and it was quiet. A week later the its noisy again. Any ideas on what might be up with the pump. I picked it up used and its only about 5mo old.

Do you have the newer magnet assembly or the original one... ? That may help. The sk181 uses the eden 2000 pump. but originally it camewith the 2800. What pump does yours have ? The sk201 I had , had the 2800 pump and it was loud too. so loud I returned the skimmer for the SM201 with the 5000 pump. Much better pump. different design internally.

It has the 2000 pump. How would I know which magnet assembly I have?

Gar, the 2000 pump should have two rows of pins on it and a long magnet. The one's i have run are quiet, i mean they have a very slight hum, but quiet overall. The 5000's are about the same noise wise, although i ran into one that was noisy and it took a few weeks to get it to be quiet.

Do you mean the needle wheel has two rows of pins? I've had it apart but don't recall. I'll have to take it apart tomorrow and take some pics. You can hear the pump clearly outside of the cabinet. Is there something wrong with the pump or can I swap out the magnet assembly or something? Thanks for the help guys!

You may be able to get a new magnet assembly and be ok, but tough to say. Take a pic of the PW and magnet and lets see if you have the right one first.

Here is the pic with the diff magnets and pw's. The first one had three rows of pins and a smaller magnet. The new one has two rows of pins and a larger magnet.

Mine has two rows of pins but looks like the smaller magnet. Is that possible? I'll have to retry posting the pic when I get home.

Hey guys so I saw this thread and figured I would post my skimmer question here. So I started off using a CPR BakPak on my 70 gallon cube with a maxijet 1200 pump on it an it has worked ok but not amazing. Well I know have an overflow box and a wet/dry sump setup. I want to go to an in sump skimner design. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money but will spend more for better quality. I would also like to get somethig I could grow with if I decide to upgrade to the marineland 150 gallon cube down the road.

Yes, thats very possible. Not sure if that would cause the noise issue though.

looking To change my skimmer. I have a 70 cube with a 40 frag tank in line and twenty gallon sump. its sps dominated with a heavy bioload. Currently running a custom atb elegance pro. Overkill yes but I couldn't resist the deal. The size of the skimmer makes it hard to get to anything in my sump. What would you recommend I change too. Going to move the atbTo my fish breeding setup. One prerequisite is that it must be quiet. Its in my tv room and I hate noise. Sold my vortechs because they were to loud to give you an example. Any help would be appreciated.

I have an 65gal frag tank with 65gal aquarium I use as my sump, sump has no partition, just sock on one side, AquaC 120 skimmer, live rock, cheato, and return pump at the other end, with about 20 gal of water in it.
1) is the AquaC 120v okay?
2) I have the air valve all the way on on the skimmer, but it doesn't seem to be bubbling over the top of the skimmer and collecting the dirty stuff. It use to but not lately. Parameters are good, but been getting algae. I think it's because the the rodi filters need changing, should be here today. Questions is, why doesn't my skimmer blow bubbles? to get enough bubbles to reach to top? Is it my water to clean? What makes the bubbles bubble over to the top into the collection cup? Okay, how do I make bigger bubbles?
I have an 500gph pump on it. If the water is to clean, will it create the bubbles? I have 2 small tangs and an damsel, no sand, barebottom.
