Has anyone ever mounted a skimmer in their canopy? Recently picked up a new tank setup with external skimmer. Well I didn't realize the skimmer uses gravity to drain as the P.O had it flowing up approximately 6"

Well the canopy I plan to build will be more than big enough to fit skimmer and then some. Was actually planing on using wall cabinets to give more storage. Before I go hunting a new sump or custom building one, Imy curious to know if anyone has done skimmer in their canopy. Pump is more than strong enough. I actually had skimmer running above tank prior to finishing sump.

Moving skimmer from below would also leave me more room for reactors n such.

If it works for you practically, it should actually be superior to a sump installation since it's directly filtering your displays water vs being "isolated" behind your drain/return plumbing.

Well I would actually still pipe it into return and actually have the skimmers drain going down overflow.

That way would be pointless unless you literally have no sensible place to deploy it in or near the sump. In fact worse than pointless since you'd need an even bigger return pump than you should need.

I literally have no room to move skimmer up and still have it serviceable.

I'm already running a 3100gph pump on its lowest setting. They way I piped it the other only head pressure on pump is literally the 4' vertical 1.5" pvc I'm running to 2 3/4" line loc fan returns

No reason to add a ugly 900gph powerheads dedicated just for skimmer when my return pump has ample power. When I had it set up prior pump was resting in bottom of DT on lowest setting and I still had gate valve dang near

and I would like to put a skimmer on this tank?? Is it worth it or should just do water changes weekly.. is there a filter out there that can support my 30 gallon. The only ones I saw was cpr bak pak2. And a rep at bulk reef supply recommended the reefoctopus bh90 I researched it and it's says it's for a 130 gallon tank. Just wondering ist that over kill?? If anyone has any ideas that can help me please feel free let me know Tha k you.

Have any had experience with this hob reefoctopus LX1000S protein skimmer?? I just bought one from my LFS that he had on his shelf. I searched but could not find much on it. Here's a picture of it.. mine is black not red.

Never used a HOB skimmer. As long as you set it right and get it tuned u should be good. There are plenty of videos on YouTube on how to tune it and initial setup. Just read directions and be patient. Each brand is built differently but ultimately accomplishes the same goal.

The Coralvue site says that skimmer if good for 75g with heavy bioload. So it may be a little overkill but the way I see it you have room to expand. Atleast you know whatever you throw at it in that 30g it will handle it.

Haha take it slow patience is key.

Spent the last 2 weeks transferring from a 75g to a 200g. Cracked a cross brace this morning so I spent today repairing it.

Grounding has been done already.one part of the skimmer is broken and they have fixed it. I feel that may be the problem.

Got a 150G build coming up and looking for an efficient skimmer that's a bang for the buck. Preferable internal to sit inside my 55G sump for the tank. Any recommendations?

Can't go wrong with a reef octopus on a budget build. Int200 skimmer is rated for 150g with heavy bIow load

Tunze 9410. It's more compact, easier to clean and has more features that make it nice to own. (Read up on its features at Tunze.com)

I would also really suggest something besides a 55 gallon tank as a sump. It's too tall and too skinny to be really practical. That makes it hard to clean and hard to work in.

Any chance you can come by a 40 breeder or 50 breeder?
