Skimmer Q&A Thread

So I am sure someone has asked in the almost 60 pages of this thread but what is a good skimmer for a 20g tank? Most of the skimmers I look at all have meh reviews so I have yet to drop any money on one. I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give!

I have been running my NC28G without a skimmer for years and have had great success(but my bio load is very small). But I only have a Maroon clown pair and a Peppermint shrimp. I do weekly water changes of 3 gallons, so it might be possible to go skimmer-less. Just my 2cts. I'm also able to keep all the birds nest and other easy SPS like encrusting montis.
I certainly like the Tunzi powerheads, so I'd hope their other items were as good.
Hey guys. Im just now coming into the saltwater hobby after putting in a year of freshwater aquarium experience. Ive been looking up alot of info on Protein skimmers, and ive really been drawn in to the AquaC Remora design. While i know it says the nano design is good for 25 or so less gallons, i was wondering if anyone had experience with either the normal Remora or the Nano, and if it does an adequate job and if it would be ok for a 20 high tank? :)

I am using a Boyu DT - 1516 protein skimmer it works great but because the instructions are not in English it is hard to work out the right height to place the skimmer in the sump, so if any one knows how to set this skimmer up i would be really grateful.

If you have the choice, go for the regular Remora.
It'll skim your 20h in a matter of hours (maybe even less - expect the skimmer to idle a lot, or run it on a timer) but you'll be capable of skimming a tank up to 75 or 90 gallons if you decide to upgrade.

Hi my name is miranda. You sound very knowledgable about skimmers and I need some help. I have zero experience and ended up with a 100 gallon feed tank about a week ago. After cleaning my skimmer cup the unit would no longer work. There are no bubbles in the skimmer body and there seems to be a bit of water in the air line (or what I believe to be the air line lol) it was working fine until I unplugged it. I'm not sure what kind of skimmer it is, there are no labels on it. If you could please help I'd greatly appreciate it

Hi, Mirandac. Is it reef or fish only tank? Your skimmer looks like coralife skimmer. It maybe under rate for your 100g tank. Also, the one that is in your hand is actually a air line to provide air to the pump for the bubbles. The water is not supposed to be in there. Try to remove all of the water in it. Hope it works.
Hi, s2nhle thank you for the help. You're right it is a coralife skimmer, would've been nice if they labeled it lol. It is a reef tank with 5 fish. What kind of skimmer would you recommend? I just rescued the tank a week ago from being thrown out, the more research I do the more I realize it's in bad shape. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, I don't have a clue [emoji16]

If you intend to keep the reef tank for a long time, then the most important tools are skimmer, light amd powerhead. You just missed the big black friday sell for them. I am using vertex omega 150, Hybrid 4 t5 and LED, and 2 Vortech pumps for my 93g cube reef tank.
