I got a question about ATB 850 v2 and the ATB 1050 v1. I am upgrading to a 160 and would like to know what one to go with, and why?

Also why are the v2's so much more in price? I am going to have it well stocked and I love to spot feed, so I thought I should go with the 1050, but then other people told me to go with the 850 v2.

depends on how it is stocked. Light to medium I would go with the 840 v2 if it is going to be heavily stocked with fish and sps I would consider the 1050. The askol pump will move more water and pull a little more air. Great system turnover. If the system is not stocked heavily it will have a hard time keeping a constant foam head.

I want to school many types of anthias and lots of sps and lps. Do you think it is worth it to buy the 1050 v2 over the 1050? also if I but the 1050 should I get one with a certain pump, and pinwheel?

What is the big difference between the 1050 and the 1050v2? I don't see why it costs so much more.

Mojo, any thought on the SWC 160 cone with the hybrid impeller? I didn't check every post on this thread so I'm not sure if you mentioned anything on it. I am using it right now on my 120 light to med stocked mixed reef. I chose the 160 because of height restrictions, cost, performance, and ease of use/maintenance. I'm extremely happy with the 160 and believe it's the best bang for the buck skimmer.

Mojo - What are your thoughts on the SRO XP2000 external? I have a 120g heavily stocked (25 or so fish total) and it is time for a skimmer upgrade. Any suggestions?

That will be a great fit for your tank. I prefer internals but thats just me. But you are on the right track. I think you will like it and its sized right for your tank too.

Hey! I am starting a 40 gallon breeder with a 30 gallon sump. I have a 20 gallon tank that I have had a lot of fun with but so far I have just been using hang on filters. With my new set up i want to do things right and am wondering for this size set up what would you recommend for the skimmer i place in my sump?

Mojo,

I have a 125g 48x30x20 Display and currently have an undersized point of sale ER (Sedra 3500) that wont pull anything. I also have a WM skimmer that is nearly identical to the AS300 (Baseplate size 14 1/4" x 15 1/2", 2 Sedra 9000's -EDIT they are actually Sedra KSP-7000's) with an AS200 body (8" x 24") that I would use in a heartbeat but my sump is only 12" wide and the base plate cannot be cut. Would you recommend a different skimmer that will fit my current sump or change out the sump and use the WM?
Do you have any idea if this skimmer was a custom build or a past model (See photo below)?
Stocking List:

4" Sohal
(2) 3" Purple Tangs
2.5" Yellow Tang
Pair of Black Occelaris Clowns 1.5" & 2.5"
(1) 2" Occelaris Clown
(2) 4" Gobys
In the future I may add a couple other fish since the Tangs all get along well and have shown no aggression towards the others (The clowns and tangs all roam around together)

Approx. 100 Frags and 30 Colonies of SPS, LPS(Mainly Chalices) and zoos all of which I will continue target feeding.

Thank you

I would use the wm if you can get it to work in that small sump or go with something with a small footprint. like a bk mini or a sss sro model

hi, I was wondering what you guys thought of the "Coralife Super Skimmer Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer" 220g version. I have one on my 150g display with 50g sump. seems to be removing dark colored gunk......but I don't have any fish in it ATM. I just have 4 sps frags 5 turbo snails and a zanthid rock (about 3"-4" mostly covered rock)

I have read mixed reviews on these skimmer's, how much of a load do you think it can handle? (I plan to have a upper-end medium load eventually) I run carbon....if that makes a difference.

Hey Mojo, I have 2 Octopus skimmers, nw 150 and 110 recirc., that I cannot seem to get any decent performance out of. I saw the mod thread on RC for the non-recirc model and am waiting to get the material in to finish working on the 150. What do you recommend for the 110 recirculating? I doesn't look like the plumbing can be bored out like the other model, so does doing the enkomat (sp) and air intake help that much?

Thanks

I would run them stock or just add 1 layer of mesh to the pinwheel.
