Skimmer questions

Looking to purchase a new skimmer that will be used for a 150-180 gallon tank.

Comparing 2 options. Reef octopus or bubble magus. What are your thoughts on these and what size would I need? I was thinking either the reef octopus regal 220 int or the bubble magus c9 elite.

Octopus regal 220 may be overdoing it as it supports 500 gallons. Bubble magus is out of this world expensive. Octopus may be better depending on the price. But you can get a smaller skimmer and still be fine.

the BM C9 elite is almost half the price of the Reef octo 220 int. it also uses a sicce psk so i would lean toward the bubble Magus. The C9 may be a little big unless you are stocking heavy. you could probably get away with a C7 elite. also look at the simplicity 320 DC skimmer.

They’re both good companies, would lean towards reef octopus.
Regal 150int would be my first choice for a tank that size.
A word of advice for skimmer size. Yeah you can adjust, and if a dc pump you can even dial it down. But if the neck and body are too big you won’t collect as much skimmate no matter what you do. Another words don’t oversize your skimmer

I’d go with a Reef Octopus personally, purely for price. BM skimmers are $$$

I have a Red Sea DC skimmer on my 100G + 50G sump and it’s nice. Undersized as it’s a carry over from my old tank, but will almost assuredly buy another when it’s time to upgrade.

The shape of the body. The elite has the wine bottle shape
