Ok , I first bought the sk201 which is the cone version of this cylinder skimmer. The sK201 has the 2s 2800 pump... THe SM201 has the es 5000 pump.
What does that mean ? well it means that the pump (the es 5000) uses the same design as the bb pumps and the askol pumps. It has no front support. I has an open pinwheel design. I ll get some pictures up to help show what I am talking about here shortly.
But after getting the skimmer I have found that I like ths pump pretty well but wish It came on the k series. I found this skimmer to be more quiet the k series counterpart as well. THe build quality seems pretty good on this skimmer. A step above the octos and other chinese made skimmers more on the lines of Warner Marine skimmers. All acrylic made where as ATB and BK use PVC for base plates and lids. I think pvc does give the skimmer a heavier more solid feel. I do like how it adjusts with the water coming out the bottom of the skimmer. This is probably the greatest feature of te skimmer. THe pump is still up in the air with me. Not sure If I like it or hate it. Time will tell there. The performance is there for sure but they are not silent. so far the es 5000 has done well. Ill do up some pictures tonight,
