Hellos guys, just found this guys in my tanks. I was looking around the tanks at night, with all the pumps off and found this guys. I believe him to be a nasarrius snail, but it is striped. I could see his “antena” and had sobre stripes. Is it possible to ID a snail just by its shell?

thanks

It's definitely a whelk. Be carefull with your fingers around his mouth. They are extremely dangerous.

Got it out of the tank. Took some more pics. Is it a Whelk for real?

I hate to say it, but looks like a whelk, maybe someone can tell me I am wrong.
I don't trust it. Hopefully someone else can say it's safe. I can't.

Well, that sucks. So I should get rid of it?

The banded trunk makes me think whelk. I would keep it in a jar, glass, plastic bowl for now. Until someone can say otherwise. Keep an eye out for any others. Whelks can reproduce quickly. If no others are visible . Hopefully that's the only one.
Ceriths and nassarius snails are cheap enough as it is.

The tatoo markings on the snout confirms whelk. Not sure why someone said theyre dangerous. They eat other inverts and can be a nuisance but I would not issue danger warnings. You can place them in a sump
