Hey all - relative n00b here. First post!
5 gal Fluval, been up 2 1/2 months. One yellow tail blue damsel is the only fish. One red-legged hermit, one blue-legged hermit. A handful of LPS corals.
Coraline growth is coming along (not very visible in pic, but small dots all OVER the rock), no hair algae to speak of, but the rock does have a light green layer on it everywhere the light hits (so it has to be algae, but it doesn't scrub off with a toothbrush, so I'm really not sure what it is). There's a little bit of cyano as well. Green film algae on the glass grows well - I have to razor-blade the glass every two to three days to stay in front of it. So far I've shrugged and just done it, not a big deal really.
But still I'm thinking I'd like to try a snail or two to see what they can do about the glass.
Q1 - I read the "choosing clean up crew" sticky at the top of this forum, and it seems like the trochus snail might be the one I'm after. Just looking for some more experienced opinions on what's compatible with my situation.
Q3 - I'm a little worried about a snail type that's going to reproduce and suddenly I'll have a million of them - which will then starve to death and peak my ammonia right? How does this work out in reality (as opposed to my imagination). Remember I'm only in five gallons (prolly more like four) not much headroom for error here.
Q4 - On the subject of them escaping the tank - do they pretty much all do it? Or are some less likely than others to go walk-about? My dog really doesn't need any more snacks than he already gets.
