I picked up a hi-fin banded goby pair and a snapping shrimp 5 weeks ago.
I saw the female hi-fin for about a week, then no sign since.
Over the weekend I found my cleaning shrimps trying to eat a dead Court Jester Goby that had been missing for a week.
Today I found them with parts of my smallest Springers Damsel.

Tank parameters are as expected, and I can’t imagine the cleaners killing fish, but the snapping shrimp (description- small and grey-brown ) has excavated lots under my rock work and seems very busy although I’ve never seen it since it went in.

Any thoughts?

gobies are known to hide away for some time
did u make any changes to the tank in that time period? its very rare that a pistol goes off and kills a lot of fish from what I am seeing online. what are you feeding?

I’ve not made changes that coincided with disappearances, but did have a minor KH spike a while back

Do you mean a pistol shrimp? What type of pistol was it? Tiger pistols have been known to kill a fish, however it could be they are misidentified.... Candy pistol is unlikely to hurt a fish..... Whats the tank size? You have both a cleaner shrimp and a pistol shrimp? (it was not clear to me)

Hi I have two cleaners and a pistol. Closest I can get to pistol ID from memory is that it probably isn’t a tiger or candy.

It could also be disease since a new fish was added just 5 weeks ago and disappeared first, or aggression. You mentioned the smallest damsel death which means multiples and the smallest would be the target of others.

Not saying it can’t be a pistol but I wouldn’t rule out other causes. Especially if the pistol does not seem to murder inverts.

Thanks, after reading responses I'm coming round to a mix of coincidence and bullying of the damsel by the larger of the group.
