Today I purchased THIS coral - knowing exactly what it is.

A beautiful Acanthastrea echinata. I got the friends and family discount at the store and the painful 120$ they called for it turned into "affordable" 50 bucks which seemed like a bargain for a coral like this...

When I got home and entered my room with the coral bag in my hands - My eyes and mouth opened wide when I looked at this chalice sitting in the tank and thought "did I just spend 50 bucks on a coral that I already have?!"

On first glance they do look similar but upon closer inspection they are not so similar anymore.
The coral I believe (or at least hope) to be an Acan echinata has a circular pattern around each "eye". The eyes are also offset inwards a little bit compared to the chalice.

Some eyes also have a bit of dark blue in them! I have never seen that in a chalice either.

The circular pattern can be seen very well in this shot I took when dipping the coral and used blacklight.

Is this an Acan echinata or a chalice?
How can you tell the difference?
FAIL(same coral) or WIN(Acan for 50$ instead of 120$)?

I'm really curious to what other have to say about it.
This just feels stupid and funny at the same time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Has something similar to this ever happened to you ?

Greetings and thanks in advance :)
