Sochting Oxydator .... in layman terms, beneficial to corals or indifferent?

I'm using one a month in and know it might be a little early to draw a conclusion on its use.

I was hoping adding pure O2 to the water would be absorbed by coral and during their photosynthesis/ zooxanthellae production have a great "leg-up" with more O2 in the water.

I'm not looking for major stunning overnight improvements where im skipping down the street screaming utter praises to my neighbors

....but a little critical if it really doing anything beneficial for corals

Soooooo plz chime in....

The use of a Sochting;

* beneficial? If so how?

* indifferent to if it's there or not? Why?

Well... hard to say bc as O2 is rising, Iodine is dropping

Just want to hear some SCIENCE behind a coral absorbing O2 to develop zooxanthellae

Hmm interesting, i dont test my O2 or iodine levels, but i have noticed a drop in shrimp/hermit molting. I also use all for reef (AFR) which has some iodine but have recently dosed lugols more frequently to facilitate regular molting now (every 1.5-3.5 weeks is what i like to see) I also started using mine on an 80 gallon at 1 catalyst and 10% H2O2 around a month ago

im hoping the increased o2 will help stabilize pH better and I wont have to use a co2 scrubber again(i dont have a pH controller so i dont want to risk it)

I do not know of any reason to think it is beneficial to corals, except possibly if the peroxide makes the water clearer and they get more light.

Adding O2 has zero effect on pH.

.

Photosynthesizing organisms in the light are sources of O2, not users. I cannot see that there's a benefit that time of day for them with more O2 in the water..

Maybe at night, if it is actually higher, there could be some benefit.

No choice for not wanting it? Seems a bit biased...

Almost no users think about the complexities of oxidizing trace elements, and making them more or less bioavailable, more or less toxic.

It's not a simple win win, IMO. It might be beneficial, but do not just accept the oft-stated but overly simplistic O2 addition aspect as all it does.

I'm thinking of using the Oxydator simply as a water clarifier instead of ozone (again I only care about water clarity benefits), what are your thoughts on its merits for this purpose? Thx

I do not know how effective peroxide is at reducing yellowing, but I expect it has some effect. The fact that is has effects like that puts the lie to the claim that the only thing leaving it is O2.

Randy, the company call.it super oxygen, not sure exactly what they mean by that as I have never heard if it. However, as much of the peroxide is broken down before it leaves the Oxydator with the remaining entering the surrounding water, then that is where the similarities with ozone comes from both being bleaches. Much depends on the % of peroxide used and the number of catalyst used as to the affect achieved. There is more of an explanation on the sochting website.
