So Loud Wolf has
MANGANESE SULFATE MONOHYDRATE (169.02g/mol)
And I also found
Manganese Chloride Tetrahydrate (197.905 g/mol)

Which one of these would be better for mixing into a dosing solution (if I can get my hands on the second one!)

We have a local science company that may be able to order it for me if they don’t carry it, unless someone knows where to buy it!

Or is there other options.

I dose quite a bit of this to my tank….i have noticed a difference when I don’t dose so I obviously believe that the corals need this or use it in a beneficial way. I’m just looking for the most cost effective solution to make a solution!!! ;)

Obviously once I determine the right powdered form of manganese I’ll probably need help with the math.

The hydration state makes no difference aside from potency.
That’s for confirming my suspicions. All the reading in the world but wanted confirmation.

What would you say the highest concentration one should make to dose into our tanks?

We can get the MnSO4 on amazon. Mixed up 3g in a liter of rodi, which is about 1 g Mn. This is about 10x triton's concentration as Mn in a bottle, so we dilute 1:10 and dose 1ml per day in 100 gallons tank.

My current dose is 8ml daily (roughly)

I have a bottle that I bought when I was actively doing the moonshiners program.

I recently added a large amount of LPS - more specifically I added 8 gonis to my current 8. So I upped the dose- I was at 5 prior.

I look into the Amazon stuff!
I want to check out local science company first

I don’t know what the highest possible concentration would be, but I also would not aim for that since an error might lead to problematic levels much faster.

Is that for the 1lb bag of the 32% that you dilute with 3g of rodi water?

This is the recipe for Manganese Chloride Tetrahydrate by Dr. Holmes-Farley

Manganese(II) chloride tetrahydrate is 28% manganese by weight.

Here's a recipe:

Dissolve 1 gram in 100o mL (grams) fresh water. Manganese = 280 ppm.

Take 1 mL (1 g) of that mix and dissolve in 1000 mL of fresh water. Mn = 0.28 ppm (=280 ug/L).

Add 1 mL of that to 100 mL of fresh water. Mn = 2.8 ug/L

Add 13.5 mL of that to 100 gallons of tank water. Conc boost to tank = 0.1 ug/L Mn. :)

This is an easier recipe that he made more recently:

Let's suppose your target is 165 ng/L, which is a typical ocean value (it varies a lot). Triton uses a set point 10x higher.

100 gallons is 379 liters.

So a NSW value of 165 ng/L x 379 L = 62,535 ng (0.063 mg) in your tank.

From the stock recipe above:

Manganese(II) chloride tetrahydrate is 28% manganese by weight.
Here's a recipe:

Dissolve 1 gram (which contains 280 mg actual manganese) in 2.8 L fresh water. Manganese = 280 mg/2.8 L = 100 mg/l.

Thus you want 0.063 mg/100 mg/L = 0.00063 L or 0.6 mL added to the 100 gallon tank to match typical NSW levels.

IF you used manganese gluconate (about 12.4% manganese by weight) you would need to use about twice as much.

How much?

Algae growth can strip manganese very rapidly.
2.5ml a day of my own solution. Which I definitely made stronger than most people. 7g of MnSO4 to 1000ml of water.

Prior to this I had been dosing 6ml Moonshiners Mn for several months.

I reduced it to 2.5ml when I switched I only saw a slight increase in Mn concentration in my tank.

It went from around .8 to .9ug/L

What size tank?

When did you take that measurement in relation to dosing?

The first measurement was done prior to the start of dosing the solution I made on 6/2/24 (water was sampled at 5amish) the next measurement was done 10/7/24 (sample pulled at 10amish). Dosing occurs at 9pm.

The tank is a 75g with a 40b sump.

I have minimal cheato in the sump. I also have about 265 corals in the display.

I don’t recommend my dosing madness to anyone.

I probably went 4-5 months of dosing 6ml of the moonshiners Mn before I tested. I did not increase rapidly. I went from 2ml to 6ml over several months.

I also do AF Lab Component Pro at 15ml a day

I’m in the process of setting up a new tank. So these corals will have more room to grow lol IMG_9668.jpeg
