What is the ideal placement for a leather coral, such as mine pictured? I feel like adhering is too harsh for these. Is it okay to leave in the sand?

I have been told if it wasn't "happy" it would die, or multiply itself to relocate.

That's a toadstool leather coral. it's better to keep it near or attach to the LR otherwise it will get knock around by inhabitants in the tank.
