Hey thats "before sand"... what where you thinking! =D

So I'm really seriously considering adding sand to my 60 cube display in my office. At first I was dead set against it... but here is my thinking lately:

1. It will help the corals on the bottom stay in one spot and be less likely to be pushed around by a snail, so less likelihood of anything being stung.

2. Might add to the brightness/aesthetic of the tank.

My cons are that it might get blown around by the MP10's ...I'm thinking of going caribsea aragalive (special grade reef sand, which is quite a bit heavier than sugar sized sand). Also then I might have to gravel vac every now and then as stuff builds up...

I know this is also just a matter of personal preference but, look at the tank and let me know what you think!

Also, you can see the corals are actually slightly below the bottom egde of the tank. So sand would lift them up slightly, so they would be more visible...

I have 2 MP10's for flow, but thinking of adding another, as I'd like more flow at the top of the tank.

Aqua Illumination Blue Sol... its getting kind of late so it looks very blue now, it ramps up to 80 percent daylight during the middle of the day.

That tank is way sick as is, but it will be much easier to add sand if you send me a few pieces as you move them.:bigsmile::wink:

Very sick tank to say the least but if I was you and you know your going to be vac'n the bottom every now and then do a black sand you won't believe the pop you'll get on those cherries on the bottom and it usually doesn't get blown around I had it in my frag tank with tons of flow and it really didn't get blown around much ! Just in places of direct current

I think it looks great with the bare bottom and quite honestly even if you dont use the sugar grade sand your acans are going to end up covered down there.

First off, it looks excellent bare bottom. On the other hand, I love the look of sand and I personally have the reef grade special - it won't get blown around. Your points are totally valid and especially the added pop. Also, I don't know how often you'll need to gravel vac; there's enough flow in there to keep it suspended in the water column.

Black egg crate would get them up, but could collect ditris.

Sometimes sand might coverup your corals on the bottom. You will have to dig them up. I've lost some chalices because I was too lazy to do so.

I noticed today, sand kills favias when it stays on them for more than 8 hrs...........................................

1/8th of u huge favia of mine is completly dead thanks to my yellow coris's midnight hunting sprees..


Black sand would look sweet tho!
