i would upgrade ur lights sooner cause the monti cap needs stronger lighting.

For there acans and candy cane, u can target feed them mysis, cyclopeeze. U will get better colors out of the acan with stronger lighting IMO.

You should be ok for 2 weeks. You will need to keep a eye on calcium and alkalinity. They should not go down too fast with just a few stony corals but caps suck up a lot of calcium when they hit a growth spurt. So check them and if ok watch for them to drop. Depending on how big your new corals are you may be able to keep them up with your normal water changes. If not you will have to supplement them with something like two part.

Good luck with the new coral

Need to be testing for Calcium, Magnesium and Alkalinity.

Really mate you should have checked this out BEFORE ordering the corals as they'll not be cheap and won't be massively suitable for the lighting you currently have. I'd not have sold them to you if you'd come into my shop until your tank was suitable for them.

I'd get the MH on ASAP mate and for the moment keep the Monti right at the top.

Problem with adding the MH is that you'll need to lower it over a week or so to the desired hight as the corals can go into photo shock if they are suddenly exposed to massive increase (Imagine walking outside into the middle of a summers day from the cinema).

Please remember this is a family oriented site so no cursing. That being said we also don't want to put our foot on peoples head. We want new people to feel welcome and new people to abide by the rules.

Thanks gents! :)

Wasn't having a go mate, sorry if thats the way it came across. I would have just either got corals to suit the tank I had or got the tank to the spec of corals I wanted to keep before hand.

Maybe you should more clearly explain your situation then people won't jump to conclusions.

The candy cane and acan would be ok with your current lighting. The cap would more than likely turn brown but I don’t think it would die and the color would come back after lighting was increased. It is funny that someone that apparently owns a shop doesn’t know that. And I’m not speculating I have kept all three under PC lighting.

So have I, but surely there is a difference between keeping something and letting it thrive which is really what people should be trying to do

I have a acan that has been under PC for a month. It started as a two polyp frag and in a few weeks has grown three little heads and attached to the rock I have it sitting on. If that’s not thriving I don’t know what is. The cap he ordered would be the only coral to really do better with a little more light but he is getting more light and it is recommended to slowly acclimate coral to higher light as you stated so the week or two with a little less light is not a big deal.
