Someone light up my life

Hello everyone. New to the salt water life and would like some advice on what light I should use. The guy at the aquariums store tried to sell me a 1500 dollar light for. 50 gallon tank. Felt like he was ripping me off so didnt get it. What would you all recommended for a 50 gal reef tank with some coral frags

1500 seems a bit excessive but you're probably going to spend around 800 very good light. I'm running a Radion xr30 Pro, it is an awesome light but it's going to set you back about $850. 2 things you don't want to scrimp on a tank are light and protein skimmer

Welcome!!! There’s a LOT of different opinions about lights but as already asked, what kind of corals do you plan on keeping?

How do you plan to mount/hang them?

The cheaper ones seem to grow coral alright, but can be butt-ugly.
A canopy really opens up your options.

Also, consider whether you plan to run this tank for 4-5 years, or if you plan to run it 18 months and upgrade. If you feel an upgrade is very likely, I'd go with something modular.
