Something on Hammer

so I’ve had this hammer for almost a year now and it’s been growing fast recently, a bunch of new small heads as seen in the pic. Next to the new growth there is a fleshy looking piece of the coral that i circled. I am hoping it is just part of the growth but any thoughts are appreciated!

yup it was hard… smarter man than i am lol now i’m wondering how long it’s been there and how i never noticed
