They are relatively hardy. They prefer low to medium light, say 50-150 PAR. Flow typical for LPS, again low to medium. They like some nutrients in the water column, so best growth is in a LPS or mixed reef tank. You can keep them in an SPS predominant tank, if you feed them. Feeding them in any type of tank, will help with growth.

The main concern with keeping Space Invaders is the amount of space you need to be able to provide for them. They have a nasty sting and will take out any coral they can reach. A happy Space Invader will be a whirling mass of death every night when it extends it's sweepers.

The Space Invader in this photo grew to double the size of when the photo was taken, but sadly was lost in a crash.

I keep mine near the sand bed, slightly elevated on flat piece of rock. It is in a shadier part of the tank with par around 100. I spot feed it weekly along with the rest of my LPS. And yes, it has long sweepers, so keep it away from other corals.

I would consider it pretty easy to keep as LPS corals go.

Here’s a pic of my space invader that I got about 9 months ago as a very small frag. Now it’s about 4 inches round. Don’t feed it anything and have in middle of tank with 200 par.

Reviving an old thread.

Do you ever have issues with sand/substrate irritating the coral? I have a sandsifting goby that will inevitably dump some sand on it. I can clean it once a week or so but I’m worried about it dying quickly if that happens.

No, I don't have any problem with sand on the coral, I would not worry about that. Mine has been on the sand bed for over four years and has grown from a frag into this thing. I stopped spot feeding mine years ago and it kept growing. It has been easy.
