Hey guys-

I got a quick question on chalices. I have noticed that on a few of my chalices, they will be very puffy and pretty healthy looking, but after awhile in my tank, some of them will develope a spiny look to them making them look sick.

I like all of my chalices to be puffy, its only a select few of my chalices that do this though. Is it my tank that is causing them to do this, or is it the nature of the chalice that is causing them to get spiny like that?

Thanks,
Austin

Weird, but if it was a alk swing, which mine goes from around 8.2-.4 from morning tonight, wouldnt it be all of the chalices getting spiny and not just 4-5 out of all of my chalices?

Interesting, but is a .2 swing from morning to night enough to cause this issue for me?

I don't think so. other factors might figure in though. temps, trates, phates, etc.. could be a combo of things. Wild colonies??? I've always had trouble dealing with them.

I feed alot,so maybe it is the alk?

My temp is a 76ish,nitrites-0,nitrates-.5-.10ish,phates-.3ish region. Some of them are wild, my 2 red rim colonies are doing this aswell, they are indo wild colonies. But my frags are also doing this? They are used to captivity, alot of the old school watermelons.

Where is your Alk at? Also what light do you have them under?

My alk is at 8.2-4 region. I cant really get it up past that. Someone told me to get it up to 9-10. They are under a 400w metal halide reeflux bulb. Just changed! But they were spiny before I changed the bulb, so its not that!lol

I have over 50 chalices and have 1 that WILL NOT puff up and look happy. It was puffy the 1st week I had it and since then it has been spiny and slick looking. Im not sure what the issue is either.
