Hey guys there's like a big sponge thing that is starting to encase my Duncan. Is this bad? Or just let it be?

I have similar problem on an elegance coral, there are sponges growing crazy and the sponge also extend long noodles hand to get to the live rock on the side. It did not affect that elegance but following your post to see what people say.
