I think the "idiom" is just as valid today as it always has been, its just how you interpret it i guess :)
Absolutely Valid but also misapplied, as in temperature:
days, heating up the room to 27°C through the south facing window, which caused the tank to reach 27.5°C. Usually i run my tank at 24° in winter, and 25° in summer.
But i had not yet hooked up my cooling fan yet, since we had crap weather in belgium up until then.
Although there was only a 3.5°C rise in temperature for 2-3 days, i did see the results when i got home.
PC Rainbow, red and green dragon echinata, a pink mille and my SSC were all "bleached" or badly off colour.
the way this is framed someone may interpret a 3 degree swing in 24hrs as fatal, which it would be when on the “edge” towards 80F as in your case, but absolutely not when dealing in temps in the low 70’s ….no way a jump from 70F to 74F in 24hrs kills or stresses any commonly kept livestock, if it did it would not last very long in the hobby
So when I see folks trying to nail a temperature, it’s wasted effort IMO

In all, I find LPS more forgiving but enjoy SPS more. However friends and family all seem to love things that move.

Easy is definitely a subjective term for sure. Once you’re dialed in, SPS can grow like weeds. Unfortunately, if things go south, SPS can also go downhill incredibly fast. Even in very established tanks. Large colonies of SPS themselves can literally change flow patterns and lighting conditions (shading) so you definitely have to continue to adapt. On the other hand, LPS can be more forgiving but can also be more aggressive (sweeper tentacles).

THIS, exactly.
My tanks were always very popular among visitors when i had Softies/LPS or mixed reefs.
Now i am 90% SPS and either everyone just got used to the idea of the marine aquarium in my house, or it just does not appeal as much to them anymore.
My mother always says, "but nothing is moving", well she's not wrong.
Especially for her, i added some Goni's :D
Gotta keep a mother happy ;)

i have every major popular kind of coral in my tank and i would say the answer depends. i think just one kind of sps is harder, acros, and only acros. all other sps are easier than lps in my opinion. iver never lost a sps, but i lost numerous torches and hammers do what i think was bacteria. sps just arent as susceptible to bjd and bacterial infections. Than from tidal garden made a video talking about how Euphyllia are very susceptible to bacteria.

only reason i dont definitively say LPS is harder, is because acros light and flow requirement, and them needed more attention to calcium and mag vs lps is the only reason i cant say lps is harder. but if acros are off the list, i would def say sps is easier.
