Here is my Oregon Tort. I accidently dropped the frag when doing some cleaning in the tank and broke off 4 branch tips. I glued the tips at the base where they encrusted nicely. Dennis

I've had a lot of experience with both the Upscales and the ORA Oregons. I currently have both. In my opinion they are not the same.

Over the years I've had two pieces that were definate from Upscales.

Here's a pic of the one I have now.

I've also had several from ORA.

The difference I always noticed is in the shade of blue.

The Upscales always appears richer, while the ORA always goes a more metallic for me.

Another thing I notice between the two is that the Upscales always grows thicker and the growth tips stay rounded and a solid color.

I have had my Orgeon Tort for three or so years, I picked it up from a local who has had it for years and years...very old school and impeccable lineage. It glows royal blue and grows sooooo slow. The coral is so incredibly beautiful in my tank, serious show stopping, glowing royal blue that is very unique. I see the Cali tort a lot ad it is a totally different coral, the ORA tort looks different when I have seen it as well. I think the Oregon tort is easy to spot when it is lthe original legit old school piece.

The lower the light the more green pigment-the higher the green goes away (in my tank)

Its a little tough to tell without seeing the color, but my guess is Oregon. The Cali has a very pronounced green through the body from the ones I have. Also depending on how high of light your piece is under could help narrow it down, as I mentioned the lower the light the more "slight" green I have seen.

Do you see much green if any in that piece?

I saw zero green and its high up, the original colony is a deep deep blue with zero green anywhere, this guy is an amazing blue in my tank and nothing else. Best color I have seen on any piece thus far, although im a bit new.

Recently, I had an issue with low Alk and did experience some tissue loss with some of my SPS, including this one, unfortunately. In the past, when I've experienced similar issues, the SPS rarely recovers. Fortunately, my Oregon Tort did recover and the tissue recession stopped. I had one for 20 years until last June. Big colny! Bought it from Rick Soutas. Great coral! Lost a bunch of other Acros due to tank leak and the chaos that followed. Need to find another frag.
