Stand build for 125

This is all I could manage to get done today. Had a few other things going on at the same time as building this, but its a good start. Needs to be skinned, and molding installed...Some people say overkill, I say I can sleep well at night knowing this thing wont fall on its face.
2x4 construction, and yes I ran out of treated wood, and had to finish with untreated, but Its going to get waterproofed anyway. Yes, theres OSB for the floor, I didnt want to use 40 dollar a sheet laminated birch for something your not going to see.
Now for the pics. Lemme know what you think.

The tank on the left is my skimmer/sump/fuge, the baffles will be changed. The tank on the right is for mangroves/heaters/probes. They will be plumbed together, and function as one sump/fuge.

Looks great but running out treated wood was a blessing in disguise...;)
you never want to use pressure treated wood for stands because the chemicals they use to treat it including copper can and most of the time does leach into our systems..:(
make sure you coat the treated wood with some kilz or polyurethane to seal there chemicals in... Besides that great job!!!!

Wish I had known that before. I plan to coat the inside with kilz, so all should be good. Thanks for the heads up.

The plan is to skin the outside with birch, then add columns on the corners, and build a canopy to match. Paint black...and finally after two years of research get this thing in the house. I have a 15 running right now with a couple coral frags in it, and a p-mint shrimp awaiting a new home.

Looks good, but as I stated on the other forum, I would reinforce those outside corners with another 2x; the majority of the weight of your stand is distributed to the ends. Right now, the majority of your weight will be sitting on the screws you've put the two layers together with. Very nice start.

I had to stack wood 3 pieces high around the front and sides to cover the bottom of the tank so I decided to double router a trim piece and put it on the front edge of the stack...Ill get better pictures tomorrow, but for now you can at least see the idea.

Excited to see the tank as well. Thats the best part about the stand build...the whole time you are doing it you are thinking to yourself...man this aquarium is going to look good. :bigsmile:

Yean no kidding...Unfortunatly, right now I dont have the money to put anything in the tank. But, I am making my own rock, so I have to cure that in fresh water anyway, so I will be setting it up to run just clean fresh water, that way I can play with the flow outlets and lighting schedules, and what not.

Ok, got it all sanded down with 220, adn got the first coat of satin clear on. Now I have to sand again with 400, and lay down a super smooth coat of clear and that should do it....Almost time to move it into the house..woot!! The clear really made the grain pop, and I love the way it looks.

Well after a very long wait, the stand is in the house. Got it placed this evening. Need to level it a little better than it is...right now its about 1/8th inch out of level side to side.
The size of this thing is decieving..Its huge.

This is with the door on.

See how big it is...lol...The bench will pull double duty for the table and the tank.

This shows the size. The tiles are 20 inches wide. The stand is 7 feet long and 38 inches high.

Putting the lights in the canopy tomorrow. Its coming together...yay!
