I have a 15 gallon aquarium (IM 15 gallon cube) with a 15” x 15” footprint. Do you guys think it will be okay if it doesn’t reach the edges of this stand (which is 17.7” x 17.7”)? I’m just not sure if it has to reach the edges of the uprights for full support (as it looks like the top plate sits inside the verticals - which would create a lot of shear stress since my tank would sit inside of the uprights). Thanks in advance.

depends what the top is made out of and if its thick enough to hold the tank. Is it just made of particle board and not strong? You could always add a thick board or plywood that extends the full top to the metal

Even if the tank went all the way to the edges the weight distributed to the center of the top would be the same. Only way it wouldn’t is if the tank had legs or bottom edges on it which put all the weight on the perimeter. Fish tanks are designed to distribute weight evenly across the bottom of the tank so i doubt thats the case.

At some point I started buying overly large stands, I like having a few inches of spare space.

All gonna depend on the top of the stand. The stand its self is plenty strong but you might have to add a thick piece of plywood or something on top if the tank doesn’t touch the framing. I wouldn’t trust a 1/4” thick topper etc
